Swedish Flower Hen

Nearing extinction in the 1970’s, three flocks of the the Swedish Flower Hen breed were found in Sweden. Shortly after, breeding program was established to help grow the population. In 2010 the breed was introduced to America and has quickly become a favorite of backyard poultry enthusiasts. The name Swedish Flower Hen applies to both the hen and roosters of the breed. The name is inspired by the mottling of the feather tips, resembling a field of blooming flowers.

The color base can vary from black, yellow, red or blue. All of these variations contain the mottling pattern that set the breed apart from any others. Some display large crests on their heads while others do not display this trait. They are excellent foragers and are tolerate colder climates well.
