Barthuhner Chickens
Barthuhner Chickens were developped in the late 1800’s by Lord Züst in Appenzell area of Switzerland. Their main characteristics are a rose comb with a backward pointing spike, a full beard and white ear lobes. When developing the Barthuhner Züst had several goals he was trying to achieve in a chicken breed. The goals were to create a large breed that could withstand the harsh cold winter and lay consistently throughout the cold season. The Barthuhner met his goals and exceeded them. They are docile and easily adapt to human interaction.
Our Barthuhner breeders came from Greenfire Farms who imported them into the US. If you are looking for a cold hardy breed then you need look no further as this is the one you want.
