French Barbezieux
Native in the Barbezieux area of the Charente region of France, the Barbezieux is a strong bird , proud, powerful, conceited attitudes but harmonious shape. Barbezieux are easily distinguished by their height, being the tallest chicken breed in Europe, and often reffered to as “a cross” between a chicken and a turkey. They have oversized combs and wattles with bright white ears; everything about the Barbezieux is oversized. The Barbezieux is said to be the superior chicken for roasting, for both its wild game flavor, golden color and wheat aroma.
The taste quality of the Barbezieux chicken has been recognised by the famous Gault Millau guide “The skin is nice and golden, with a fine aroma of wheat. The meat is firm with a pronounced almost gamey flavour”
