That’s right we have acquired a trio of Bielefelder chickens from Green Fire Farms. These two hens and one roo will be the foundation for our new flock.
These are the first new addition of rare breed chickens to our farm, however, there will be more rare additions coming soon.
Here are a few pictures of some day old Rhode Island Red/Barred Rock Mix Chicks. They are nice and warm in our custom brooder we call “Big Momma”.
Boxed up hatching eggs
This week we sent our first set of eggs to the state of New Jersey. There is no question our chickens are proud to know they have family all over the United States. That even includes New Jersey 
Perhaps one day, some of the chicks will show up on the Jersey Shore tv show?? You never know.
Full incubator
Here is a picture from our latest setting. 39 eggs went into the incubator today. In 3 weeks we will be hearing some little cheeps. These eggs are for a custom order of 150 chicks delivered over several months time. We will post pics of the chicks in about 3 weeks.
This week we completed our custom chick brooder. The new brooder, aka “Big Momma”, features a thermostat controlled heat lamp and a pull out drawer for easy cleaning. All of our new hatched chicks will now have luxury accommodations for their first few weeks of life.
While “Big Momma” waits for her first house guests, she has been keeping watch over the next batch of eggs in line for the incubator. Three weeks from now those eggs will be visiting Big Momma again in the form of chicks.
